Sustainability: The lake view for the big picture.
We value the privilege of being able to live and work in the midst of a World Natural Heritage site. Amrum is a very special place that shows us every day how precious and unique our environment is – and how much we should look after it.
For us, sustainability doesn't stop at energy and food.
It includes the people who provide the sea view: we pay our team fairly and reliably all year round – not just in the high season. A business that takes responsibility seriously does so at all levels.
Energy & Resources
An on-site combined heat and power plant running on certified green gas, supplemented by 100 % green electricity and combined with an electric charging point for cars and bicycles. District heating, heat recovery and smart control systems ensure the responsible use of energy. LED technology, water-saving systems and a private well for garden irrigation further reduce consumption.
Kitchen & Groceries
Fresh, seasonal, regional. We focus on products from the island and the surrounding area, avoid waste, and work with well-considered portions. Less packaging, more quality.
Everyday life & details
Digital guest folders instead of paper, reusable instead of single-use, eco-friendly cleaning agents instead of chemicals. Many small things that together make a difference.
„We are open to everything – not: the next 100 years will be like the last 100."
Here are a few of these details in plain language: The waste heat from our cold stores is used to heat the swimming pools. Straws are made of glass, toiletries are made from 100 % recycled paper, and the hazelnut nougat cream contains no palm oil. For takeaway meals, we use reusable systems such as RECUP and REBOWL, whilst in your room you can pamper yourself with refillable Rituals dispensers. And our own on-site well supplies water for the garden.

Our initiatives & memberships
For generations, we have lived and worked in harmony with the island. We share this attitude with strong partners and initiatives:
- Part of the sustainability initiative „Glück hoch n“ of the state of Schleswig-Holstein
- „Guaranteed Sustainability“ award (German Institute for Sustainability and Economy)
- Certified with the Greentable seal for sustainable gastronomy
- Member of Feinheimisch
- Slow Food member
- Partners of the Schleswig-Holstein Gourmet Festival
Feinheimisch, for instance, regularly audits its members and is „transparent" – right down to disclosing its supplier lists. Anyone who has nothing to hide is happy to open their books. It is precisely this attitude that we live by.
Feinheimisch: Pleasure from Schleswig-Holstein.
The Seeblick is a member of Feinheimisch – and that is more than just a badge on the menu. Head chef Gunnar Hesse is on the association's board and explains it like this: „Feinheimisch means from my region. All fine produce, food, cuisine from the region for the region. So keeping the entire value creation chain within the region."
What makes Feinheimisch special is that restaurateurs and producers sit together on an equal footing in an association – „We all have equal voting rights. So we are one desk." From field to plate, people think together. „For me, Feinheimisch is a togetherness. A togetherness of everyone."
What Gunnar Hesse connects with Feinheimisch, he puts very directly: „Honesty, genuine, meaning unfaked, pure and sustainable." And: „Feinheimisch is craftsmanship. We don't use convenience foods." Potato dumplings, jus, pickled herbs – here everything is made from scratch, just like in the old days in the village kitchen.
What that means for you on your plate: traceable origin, honest quality and dishes that suit the season. You can read more about our cuisine on the „Restaurant" page.
